ELECTRIC RADIATORS

Electric Radiators, the fast solution for heating needs

Electric Radiators: what do you need to know?

Intervening in a home's heating plumbing system always involves extensive masonry work. The installation of an electrical product, on the other hand, is a much more convenient solution, as it avoids the need to set up connections.

Electric radiators can be specially designed to meet the needs of homeowners who cannot, or do not want to, make big changes to their system.

It is operated by an electric heating element connected to a safety thermostat; this heating element is immersed in a special heat transfer liquid that fills the entire radiator circuit. When the temperature set in the thermostat increases, the heating element converts the electrical energy into heat.

There are different types of heating elements, with more or less advanced technologies: from simple on/off (on/off) to those regulated with thermostat and wi-fi control.

Electric radiators are often installed in the bathrooms, that may also have underfloor heating because of their additional practical application as towel warmers.

Electric radiators can be managed with a timer thermostat; this device allows to regulate the temperature in each room, regulating when the radiator is on and off, setting the timer and the desired time bands. You can then decide when you want to heat your rooms throughout the day, when you are at work for example, it is not important to keep the heating on, with a set program the timer thermostat can be programmed to turn the heating on before you get home and so save a lot of electricity and provide flexible control.

How to choose radiator wattage.

The power of the radiator should be calculated taking into consideration several aspects including the size of the room to be heated, the average temperature you want to keep in it, its location, and the type of dwelling in which it is located. These are just some of the information, which is needed to correctly estimate the radiator output. It is very important to correctly size the electric radiator to be installed to avoid the unpleasant feeling of cold.

In order to determine which radiator is best suited to the needs of each individual room, you need to calculate the watts required based on the following information:

    Room size (length/depth/height)
Type of room (living room/ sleeping room/bathroom)
Building insulation (poorly insulated / very insulated / Class A)
Minimum outdoor temperature (-20° to +5°)

Try our online calculator to get a rough indication of the watts needed to heat a room. Obviously, to determine the correct size of the radiator, you need to rely on a professional to make the correct calculations.

 Range of electric radiators

Dual Function Radiators: the ideal solution for mid-seasons.

As the name implies, " Dual fuel radiators " are radiator or towel rails connected to the boiler but, thanks to an additional electrical heating element, can also operate electrically; which means that these radiators can also be used independently of the central heating system, offering greater control and flexibility.

This allows the radiator to be used even when the heating system is off, in summer for example.

In order to be able to guarantee functionality in both hydraulic and mixed modes, without changing the hydraulic connection centre, IRSAP proposes the use of special space-saving thermostat valves and lockshields that allow the electric heating element to be inserted into the manifold, through the valve cover itself (fig.1).

Figure 1

Many of the radiator models with '50mm' hydraulic connection centre can be conveniently converted into a dual fuel radiator without the need to make any changes to the hydraulic connection or wall fixing of the radiator.

At the lower ends of the side manifolds there are threaded holes in which the electric heating element can be inserted at any time (picture 2).

Range and offer of electrical products: how to choose?

The wide range of IRSAP electric radiators can provide a solution to wide range of heat output requirements (250 to 2000 Watt) and for every room of the house (with various models and sizes).

Many electric radiators can be integrated with:

  • ON/OFF control
  • Electronic thermostat to regulate the temperature of the radiator
  • IR electronic control to regulate room temperature and remote control for electronic control
  • Wireless digital electronic control, which can be programmed on a weekly basis to manage switch-on, operation and bring the room temperature to the desired degree. This wireless control also makes it possible to reach the set temperature at the desired time via the ITCS (Intelligence Temperature Control System) function by adjusting the radiator's early switch-on according to the ambient temperature.

The IRSAP range offers products that range from design models, for those who are looking for contemporary modern designs, to the more classic bathroom, furniture, or multi-column models, versatile and functional suitable for heating and furnishing any domestic environment.

Everything you need to know about electric radiators and new regulations.

Eco-Design

IRSAP has embarked on a virtuous path in the green perspective, now better known as ECO DESIGN, working towards product design in accordance with a responsible philosophy from many points of view: first and foremost environmental, but also ethical and social.

Providing the possibility to choose the most suitable product for your needs, respecting the environment and ensuring maximum energy saving.

The latest generation of electric radiators must comply with current regulations on energy saving, and they also allow a much higher environmental comfort than the same products marketed before 2018. This is thanks to the new temperature controllers including the ITCS (intelligent temperature control system) function.

The ECO DESIGN 2018 regulations make a distinction between towel warmers and electric radiators: towel warmers only have an on/off function; electric radiators have the possibility to manage temperatures and time slots.
