ARCHITECT Serena Romanò
STYLE Classic

Perched atop the rooftops of Rome, this apartment harmoniously blends classic and contemporary elements. It is open yet intimate and elegant yet understated. Renovated by architect Serena Romanò, this spacious apartment strikes a careful balance between the many dimensions of domestic life. Overlooking the refined Parioli district of Rome and nestled within a lush garden, this early 20^(th)-century home is inhabited by a family of four.

The redesign encompassed the entire apartment and was guided by the clients’ desire to create interconnected living spaces divided only by furniture.

“The owners wanted open, light-filled spaces that would also feel peaceful and intimate. They envisioned wide rooms for welcoming their guests, such as the terrace and living room, alongside more private, intimate areas. The living space needed to be open and airy, connected to the home’s various functional areas and the outdoors, while the kitchen needed to remain independent,” explains the architect.

The intention was to retain the beauty of natural light and the verdant surroundings of the park in which the apartment is located.

The rooms are defined by bookcases and suspended ceilings, and the flat's distinctive character is lent by Italian herringbone parquet, marble, antique woodwork and a Comino fireplace.
